George Street Bar & Grill
This light and airy bar/grill on George Street is open all day until 1.00 am. It caters for all the family and offers afternoon tea, and specialist kids’ menus, which can be a relief for mum and dad after a hard morning’s shopping. Featuring a large range of wines, and the Friday 5 O’clock Club with live music.
The Kitchin
Named after the owner, Tom Kitchin, this waterfront restaurant uses French techniques on local Scottish produce. It was awarded a Michelin star in 2007 and has won many other awards including “Best UK Restaurant”. That says it all, really. Tom is also behind The Scran & Scallie, and Castle Terrace Restaurant.
Castle Terrace Restaurant
Sitting just below Edinburgh Castle, this innovative restaurant opened in 2010 under the patronage of Edinburgh-born Dominic Jack, who spent many years training as a sous-chef for Michelin 3 star chef Alain Soliveres. Only the finest Scottish seasonal produce is used.
Ondine Restaurant
Ondine describes itself as a “proper seafood” restaurant using the freshest and most sustainable catches of UK fishermen. Lobsters from Newhaven jostle with scallops caught by divers on Mull who are considered by Chef Patron Roy Brett as part of the Ondine family.
Mother India’s Café
Not so much a café as a fine Indian restaurant offering what it refers to as a “twist on tapas” – the twist being that Indian food replaces the Spanish. There’s a wide choice of dishes, all very reasonably priced – two could eat for under £25.00.
