What to Do:

Edinburgh has two distinct areas which are both World Heritage Sites: the Old Town and the neoclassical New Town.

The Old Town is incredibly popular with tourists thanks to its spectacular buildings, narrow streets, and it’s iconic pinnacle - Edinburgh Castle. Perched on an extinct volcano formed over 70 million years ago, the castle is home to Scotland’s crown jewels. The views from the castle are like no other, and make the hike up worthwhile!

The highlights of the city’s New Town are Princes Street and George Street - the perfect spots for indulging in retail therapy! The landmark Jenners department store is well worth a visit, even if you just walk by to admire it’s grand Victorian facade. The city is home to the largest arts festival in the world, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The streets are transformed into an artistic, creative and entertaining hub every August. Thousands of performers take to hundreds of stages across the city, presenting shows to suit every taste. From household names in the world of entertainment, to newcomers on the comedy scene, the festival has something for everyone.

Where to Eat:

It’s not all haggis and shortbread in Edinburgh - the restaurant scene is thriving, with something to suit all taste buds and price ranges.

The Gardener’s Cottage, located at the foot of Calton Hall, has a reputation for serving wholesome, seasonal food that connects the diner with the producer and the varied local landscape. Whether you fancy a leisurely brunch or a seven-course tasting menu, you won’t be disappointed.

Restaurant Mark Greenaway, which boasts 3 AA rosettes for Culinary Excellence, is situated in the New Town and brings fun to fine dining. Serving modern Scottish cuisine, Mark uses innovative techniques to enhance flavours and create a true feast for the eyes.

Where to Drink:

From speakeasies to stylish cocktail bars, the city offers more than your average boozer.

Bryant and Mack Private Detectives is a private eye-themed speakeasy which is particularly difficult to find. Nestled behind frosted windows and a faded door, the cocktail bar gives little away until you step inside. Offering a creative twist on classically-made cocktails, the friendly staff and fun atmosphere make this bar a must-visit (if you can find it!).

The Devil’s Advocate is a whisky lover’s dream, thanks to their offering of around 400 varieties of the spirit. Situated within a Victorian pump house, it has a trendy yet cosy vibe. As well as an extensive drinks menu, the bar also serves delicious seasonal and Scottish food.

Where to Stay:
